Mail Threat Alert - May 2023

May saw an uptick in reporting, with 70% of the mail incidents containing narcotics, and of those threats, 36% contained Methamphetamine. A concerning trend is that more narcotics, like Methamphetamine, are being converted to liquid forms, which makes the narcotic easier to acquire and harder to detect. 

Judicial officials and incarceration facilities were the main targets of this month’s attacks. These hard targets employ strict security measures but are still vulnerable to mail-based threats. Other targets, including public buildings and schools, received threats through “Last Mile” delivery methods. Last-mile tactics, such as courier deliveries, are easy to bypass mail screening processes.
