Dangerous Mail Analysis
In January 2022, the total number of mail security threats dropped from December but continued increasing government targeting. The reason for these attacks spanned everything from racism to frustration with mandatory vaccinations to the insurgency.
The remainder of the monthly threats were dominated by letters and drugs, and the apparent smuggling numbers also rose.
- Several IEDs detonated this month, killing seven and wounding eight utilizing parcel devices that directly targeted high-profile or government individuals.
- Churches saw increased hate mail utilizing “last-mile delivery,” leading to the offender’s identification due to cameras and security measures.
- Courts and correction facilities are seeing a significant surge in the mail that has been dipped in drugs and disguised as “legal mail.”
